Mastered: November 25-27, 2024
Technical Shit:
In late Summer/early Fall, I gave the 2009 Remastered disc a spin and, while the songs are as incredible as ever, I said to myself: “self… these mixes have GAPING holes in the stereo spectrum”… and I decided that I was right… because… I’m ‘David’… duhhhhh…
And so began this remix project. The problems that were glaring to me:
- Ringo was HARD-PANNED on most of the tracks… there was no dimension or depth to the drum sound. Someone put the poor man in a closet with a cheesy overhead mic. Or so it was mixed to sound.
- Incidental sweetening (that fucking tamborine!! Cowbells… and etc.) was dead center and mixed LOUDDDD… drowning out really fantastic music buried in the mix.
- Vocals… mixed low with effects as loud AS the vocals layered on top. It’s like “Studio A” had a seizure.
- Mixes were top-heavy and/or lopsided…(Especially “And I Love Her”), with Drums, Bass, Rhythm Guitar flushed hard right… while the lead guitar (and maybe a soft piano buried in the mix) are all that’s on the left side… with vocals dead center (if you’re lucky!).
So… ummm… no. I wanted the mixes balanced with no pockets of dead space in the sound spectrum. To make a long story even more boring and intolerable: I de-mixed everything. I mean… EVERYTHING! I even ripped the effects for the instruments and vocals onto separate tracks…. to be mixed back into the songs, but decreased in volume in some instances. Some songs feature stereo drums, most have Ringo’s cymbals reduced in volume.Downloads are below in FLAC/MP3 bundles, zipped up just for y’all. Peace Out.
