It was 40 years ago tonight that Survivor opened for REO Speedwagon at the Market Square Arena… for a New Year’s Eve concert that blew everybody away. Jimi was ON FIRE that night… delivering a near-perfect performance… and the band played better than almost every existing live recording of them that I have ever heard.
The source of this recording that you’re listening to was (and always has been, over the years)… vinyl. The records were shipped to local stations for broadcast, and of the few that have survived, all have scratches or “wow-and-flutter” issues. So what we’ve done is take the best portions from these sources and have edited them flawlessly together. After demixing the entire show, we de-clicked and de-noised the source tracks as much as possible, remixed the show with Jimi’s voice more balanced and forward in the mix alond with more presence on the bass and drums. Finally the tracks were remastered and are presented here much cleaner than the bootlegs that have been circulating for years. Downloads are below. Enjoy! Happy New Year!
